IYTI Belfast

Some of us contemplate organising our very own an art show, others prefer to spectate, but for Alice Burns Aka Dogtired she has just pulled off the organisation of her second, IYTI (It’s Yours, Take It!) show in Belfast.  The show featured no less than 100 pieces, submitted from various artists all over the world, with one main concept, that their pieces were free to the public.  Check out the interview with Dogtired below, gain some inspiration and get planning!

How did the show go? was there a good amount of entries?

The show went well, a bit slow as the public here are not used to this type of thing.

But the general reaction was good and a wide range of ages of the takers.

we had a good number of pieces over 100

What are peoples reactions upon realising that they are allowed to take a piece home?

At first they do not believe it is FREE. Some thought there was a catch of some sort (understandable) but when we explained what IYTI is about they were impressed.

Getting people to stop and look at the art is difficult, they think it is for sale (no matter how big the sign is J )

Were there any pieces in the show that stood out to you particularly?3754823525_fdccf9fed8

It’s really difficult to pick one there were so many great pieces. The dellboyy piece was really striking. And the big one by walltea

This is your second free art show that you have now orgainised, any adivce to people who are thinking of doing something like this?

Get help! J

Hanging the work is time consuming get someone to help you, plus it’s more fun if you have company.

Get someone else to take photographs of the event, it is difficult to talk to people and take photos as the same time.

It is a big responsibility, people are sending art work on a trust basis, make sure you keep everyone updated on what’s happening.

Sometimes things happen and you have to change the date or venue, let people know as soon as possible.

Be prepared to get a negative reaction from some people and take it in good grace.
